Ravens officially acquire Jacoby Brissett in trade with Cardinals

The Baltimore Ravens have officially acquired veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals, completing a trade that addresses their immediate need at the position following injuries to Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. Baltimore announced the transaction Friday, two days after ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported that the teams were finalizing an agreement. The move gives head coach Jesse Minter and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle an experienced option as the Ravens attempt to recover from a four-game losing streak.

Brissett, 33, arrives in Baltimore with 73 career starts over 11 NFL seasons, including eight this season with Arizona. The veteran completed 63.3% of his passes for 1,719 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions before losing his starting job to Gardner Minshew II.

The trade comes less than 24 hours after Baltimore's 33-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, a game in which undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano struggled in his first NFL start. Fagnano completed 10 of 18 passes for 60 yards and two interceptions, finishing with a 22.7 passer rating.

Full details of Ravens-Cardinals trade

Baltimore received:

  • Quarterback Jacoby Brissett

  • 2027 fifth-round draft pick

Arizona received:

  • 2027 fourth-round draft pick

  • 2028 seventh-round draft pick

Rather than surrendering a draft selection outright, Baltimore moved down one round in the 2027 draft and added a 2028 seventh-round selection.

The structure allows general manager Eric DeCosta to acquire an established quarterback while retaining a selection in the fifth round of the 2027 draft.

Why the Ravens needed Jacoby Brissett

Baltimore's quarterback situation changed dramatically during Sunday's 36-10 loss to Buffalo. Jackson suffered a right thumb injury that required surgery, while Huntley sustained a turf toe injury expected to sideline him for the rest of the season. Jackson has been placed on injured reserve and must miss at least four games, leaving Baltimore without its two most experienced quarterbacks. The Ravens subsequently signed Kedon Slovis from Green Bay's practice squad and added Austin Reed to provide additional depth.

Brissett gives Baltimore an established NFL starter who has experience operating multiple offensive systems. He also reunites with Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork, who previously worked with him in Arizona and Cleveland.

His familiarity with Woolfork could help accelerate the transition into Doyle's offense, particularly with the Ravens having additional preparation time before their next game.

Ravens get financial relief in Brissett trade

Arizona also helped facilitate the transaction by restructuring Brissett's contract before the deal was completed.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Cardinals converted $2.7 million of Brissett's remaining $5.4 million base salary into a signing bonus. The adjustment reduced Baltimore's remaining base-salary obligation to approximately $2.43 million, although Brissett can earn additional money through incentives.

That adjustment lets the Ravens add an experienced quarterback without assuming his remaining salary.

What's next for Brissett and the Ravens?

Brissett is expected to take over as Baltimore's starting quarterback when the Ravens host the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football on Nov. 16. The timing gives Brissett more than a week to learn Doyle's system and develop chemistry with Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, Mark Andrews, and Baltimore's offensive line.

The Ravens have dropped to 4-5 following Thursday's defeat and have been held below 14 points in four consecutive games for the first time in franchise history.

Brissett won't solve every problem facing Baltimore, particularly an inconsistent offensive line and a defense that has struggled to limit explosive plays. However, the Ravens now have an experienced quarterback who can manage the offense and provide stability while Jackson continues his recovery.

With the NFL trade deadline approaching Tuesday, general manager Eric DeCosta has made a move that signals Baltimore isn't ready to concede its season despite a difficult first half.
