Liverpool and Chelsea to “battle” for €55m January signing

Liverpool are in the market for a midfielder, and links to Lamine Camara persist, with a multitude of outlets reporting on the story.

The 22-year-old is an expert ball-winner and is exactly what the Reds need in midfield, although some reports have suggested that his arrival would mark the departure of Alexis Mac Allister, which makes it less appetising.

The Argentine has essentially been pleading for a new Liverpool contract, with multiple interviews in the press this season underlining his desire to stay at Anfield.

That said, there has been little to suggest that the club is working on a new contract.

Camara is a fine player, though, and would be a worthy Liverpool signing.

Liverpool are ready to “battle” Chelsea for Camara

Chelsea sold Enzo Fernandez late in the summer transfer window, but despite agreeing a €55m fee with AS Monaco for the transfer of Camara, the Ligue 1 outfit pulled the plug on his transfer an hour before the window closed.

The Blues were left furious and, crucially, without a replacement for Fernandez.

They will more than likely return for Camara, but will face serious competition from Liverpool, with a new report stating that the Reds will challenge for his transfer in January.

Footy Africa reports: “Former Premier League champions Liverpool have become the latest club to show strong interest in signing Camara in the winter and are ready to battle Chelsea for the signature of the young Senegalese midfielder.

“Andoni Iraola’s men failed to add a marquee signing in midfield over the summer and will now be keen to strengthen as they look to boost their title challenge.

“Additionally, the uncertainty over the future of Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is also expected to push their interest, especially as the former Brighton star could depart next summer.”

Liverpool should sign Camara, but keep Mac Allister

Last season’s dismal showing from Mac Allister seems to have been a temporary blip, with the former Brighton star back to his combative best this season.

I’m keen to see Macca remain at Liverpool, but Camara is also a necessary signing, although it would encroach on the minutes available to the young but talented Trey Nyoni.
