BAYERN MUNICH chief Uli Hoeness has admitted Jamal Musiala is suffering from “an illness that isn’t easily curable” after six weeks out.
The Germany playmaker hasn’t played for Bayern since September 18 after a tearing a muscle fibre against Union Berlin.
It has been a difficult season overall for the ex-Chelsea youth star, who collapsed twice in pre-season after being diagnosed with absence seizures.
But after dealing with another setback just months later, Hoeness said the club were facing a “dilemma” after revealing a undisclosed illness.
He told Bild: “With him, we’re in a dilemma: He has an illness that isn’t easily curable, but which can be managed reasonably well with medication.
“But whether he’ll ever regain the performance level he once had… For now, he’s still getting paid.
“But imagine if FC Bayern were to question his contract now and say: ‘What he’s capable of now isn’t what’s stipulated in the contract’.”
Musiala is reportedly Bayern’s second-highest earner behind Harry Kane on around £370,000 a week.
Club legend Lothar Matthaus suggested the player was going through “something else” after his lengthy lay-off.
He told Sky in Germany: “It’s been dragging on for some time with Jamal Musiala.
“In September in Amsterdam, the talk was of a torn muscle fibre. I suspect something else has happened in the meantime; a torn muscle fibre does not take six weeks to heal.”
Musiala gave his club a scare after going down during a friendly against Red Bull Leipzig.
He then suffered another collapse against FC Heidenheim just three days later.
Musiala later eased fears over his condition and said he was suffering from “easily treatable absence seizures”.
Absence seizures are caused by a temporary neurological lapse where the brain pauses electric signals.
They can cause the sufferer to momentarily lose balance or pass out.
He returned to the pitch but has only played four games for Bayern this season, with just two of those coming from the start.
His last game came in a 7-0 romp over Union Berlin almost two months ago, which saw him score and assist.
Musiala – who was a former England youth international – has played 235 times for Bayern, scoring 71 times.
