India will take on New Zealand in the second match of the three-match ODI series at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Saturday, November 7. Shubman Gill's side won the rain-affected series opener in Auckland by five wickets via the DLS method and will look to carry that momentum into the next game.
New Zealand, meanwhile, need a much-improved performance. The hosts, led by Mitchell Santner, have also suffered another setback, with Devon Conway ruled out of the series due to concussion. Notably, New Zealand lost the preceding five-match T20I series against India 2-3.
New Zealand were bowled out for 185 in 41 overs in the first ODI. Tim Seifert top-scored with 38 off 43 balls, but the hosts struggled against India's pace attack and lost five wickets for just 42 runs. No. 11 batter Blair Tickner scored 34 off 23 deliveries, including four sixes, to take New Zealand to 185.
India's fast bowlers shared the wickets, with Arshdeep Singh claiming four scalps. Gurnoor Brar took three wickets, while Anshul Kamboj returned figures of 2/22 in his 10 overs to win the Player of the Match award.
Kyle Jamieson gave New Zealand an early breakthrough in the chase by dismissing Rohit Sharma for a six-ball duck. However, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli put India in control with a 113-run partnership off 104 deliveries. Kohli scored 74 off 51 balls, while Gill contributed 37.
Jacob Duffy finished with three wickets for 49 runs, but New Zealand failed to defend their total. India lost four wickets for 22 runs towards the end of the chase but reached the revised target of 143 with nearly 10 overs to spare.
Daryl Mitchell remains New Zealand's biggest batting threat. He scored 28 in the first ODI before Rohit Sharma's direct hit ran him out. Mitchell enjoyed an outstanding series against India earlier this year, scoring 352 runs in three ODIs, including two centuries and an 84.
Indian cricket fans can watch the second ODI between India and New Zealand live on the Sony Sports Network. The match will also be available for online streaming on the SonyLIV app and website. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 AM IST on Saturday, November 7, at Sky Stadium in Wellington.
Sky Stadium generally offers a balanced surface, with fast bowlers likely to enjoy the conditions early in the innings. The new ball can produce seam movement and extra bounce, particularly under cloudy skies. Batters who negotiate the opening overs should find it easier to play their shots as the innings progresses.
The venue has hosted 32 ODIs, with an average first-innings score of 232. Teams batting first have won 16 matches, while sides chasing have secured 14 victories. Two games have ended in a tie or produced no result.
New Zealand have won one and lost two of their three ODIs against India at this ground. With rain threatening another interruption, the toss could play an important role. The captain winning it may prefer to bowl first to assess the conditions and have a clearer idea of the revised target if the weather intervenes.

Rain could once again disrupt proceedings during the second ODI in Wellington. Persistent showers in the city have already affected the teams' preparations, with New Zealand moving their practice session indoors to Wellington College. India, meanwhile, cancelled their outdoor training session.
According to AccuWeather, Wellington has a 60% chance of precipitation during the first half of Saturday and a 55% chance in the second half.
The first ODI in Auckland was interrupted by two spells of rain, resulting in India's target being reduced from 186 in 50 overs to 143 in 32 overs. The visitors eventually completed the chase comfortably.
New Zealand have suffered a major setback with Devon Conway ruled out of the ODI series after sustaining a concussion during a training session. The opening batter collided with fast bowler Matt Henry, who was also assessed following the incident.
Conway missed the first ODI in Auckland, and the selectors have called up left-handed batter Nick Kelly as his replacement. He will miss the remaining four matches of the one-day series.
Henry has been cleared of concussion and is available for selection. The hosts will still miss all-rounders Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman, who were ruled out before the series began.
India have not reported any fresh injury concerns following their victory in Auckland. However, Aqib Nabi could make way for Mohammed Siraj after going wicketless in the first ODI.

Shubman Gill vs Kyle Jamieson
Shubman Gill relies on his timing, placement, and ability to play shots on both sides of the wicket. Jamieson, meanwhile, uses his height to generate extra bounce and can trouble batters with deliveries outside the off stump.
Daryl Mitchell vs Arshdeep Singh
Daryl Mitchell is comfortable against pace and likes to play straight and through the leg side. Arshdeep Singh will look to challenge him with his left-arm angle, swing, and variations.
Virat Kohli vs Mitchell Santner
Virat Kohli uses his footwork to disrupt the bowler's length. Mitchell Santner will rely on his accuracy, changes in pace, and subtle variations to restrict the Indian batter.
New Zealand: Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Kyle Jamieson.
India: Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Arshdeep Singh.
