“Remains a promising team” – Costacurta praises ‘unique’ Milan squad for Amorim trust

Ruben Amorim’s methods need full commitment, and it’s fair to say that his players are giving that at AC Milan.

With the system that Amorim plays, there needs to be an understanding of how things work and why they do. Of course, it’s not the easiest to play and there are constraints to it. However, with a full understanding of it, Milan are more likely to be like Sporting, rather than Manchester United.

After all, with the latter, his squad never fully committed, hence the breakdown towards the end of his tenure.

Already an Amorim team

Speaking to Sky Sport after the 2-0 win against Udinese, Costacurta admitted that he was seeing positive signs from the Diavolo players in the way that they were following Amorim’s instructions, as MilanNews relays.

“I see players who follow their coach in a truly unique way. I like their attitude on the pitch. I don’t see a Scudetto-winning team yet, though: I think there are a couple up front right now, but it’s really very early days, and this remains a promising team.

“This is what I see: a promising team. Lots of forward running. What I notice is all this attacking drive, not just when they have to win the ball back, but also when they develop without the ball. I think this is the big difference they’ve shown so far: they keep going, they keep going, they keep going.

“Bartesaghi had a wonderful match. I was thrilled with this guy’s performance, because he made so many quality runs. It seems like the leitmotif is precisely that: attacking with or without the ball.”

Considering how his time in Manchester ended, with players looking like they rejected his system, it’s a massive green flag for the players and Amorim himself. If they’re already committing to this now, in the long run it could have a substantial payoff.
