Bayern Munich booked their place in the DFB-Pokal Round of 16 with a commanding 6-1 victory over FC Magdeburg, but Tom Bischof was quick to acknowledge that the scoreline did not reflect just how challenging the match was at times.
Magdeburg came to the Allianz Arena determined to play their football, pressing Bayern aggressively and refusing to sit back. The visitors made life uncomfortable for Vincent Kompany’s side, particularly in the first half, but Bayern eventually took control and pulled away after the break.
Bischof recognized the quality of the opposition while making it clear that Bayern deserved their emphatic victory.
“We knew they have quality and play good football. They tried to chase us all over the pitch. It’s not so easy but we expected that. It’s not easy against any opponents, but in the end it’s a highly deserved win for us. It’s just fun to play in front of the fans. They always support us, and it’s just awesome playing at the Allianz Arena for FC Bayern,” Bischof said (as captured by FCBayern.com).
The midfielder’s comments also highlighted the special atmosphere at the Allianz Arena, where Bayern Munich’s supporters continue to provide an incredible backdrop for the team.
Six goals, another step toward Berlin, and a night to enjoy. Bayern are through, but the real tests keep coming, with Borussia Dortmund awaiting in Der Klassiker this weekend.
