Broncos host 3 players for tryouts after 2 injuries at running back

The Denver Broncos brought in three players for tryouts on Tuesday, according to the NFL's transaction wire.

Denver hosted running back Jaret Patterson, defensive lineman Jordan Miller and defensive lineman Cam Rice. Patterson and Miller were signed to the practice squad following their tryouts.

Patterson was added to add more depth to the backfield as the Broncos have just two healthy running backs on the active roster: veteran J.K. Dobbins and rookie Jonah Coleman. Patterson now joins Cody Schrader on the practice squad.

The Broncos are currently missing RJ Harvey (ankle) and Tyler Badie (thumb). Badie will be eligible to return from injured reserve in Week 12 and Harvey will be eligible to return in Week 13 (Denver has a bye in Week 10).

The fact that the Broncos also hosted two defensive linemen (signing one of them) might be a sign that the team's defensive line is also nicked up this week. Denver will hold its first practice of the week on Wednesday.

Broncos tryouts

The Broncos are preparing to go on the road to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.
