FC Andorra have released a statement including the first words of goalkeeper Jesus Owono since the tragic death of Jesus de Miguel.
CD Tenerife confirmed on Tuesday morning that De Miguel, 30, had passed away after he appeared to lose consciousness after a horrific collision with Owono on Monday night.
Owono was shown a straight red card and the Spanish Segunda Division match was abandoned when it became clear there was a serious issue.
His club issued a worrying update at 4am on Tuesday that his condition was worsening after being rushed to hospital, before confirming his death later that morning.
After reports that Spanish police had opened an investigation into De Miguel's death and a media update on how Owono has dealt with the situation, FC Andorra have now released a fresh statement.
"FC Andorra remains deeply affected by the death of Jesús de Miguel. At this incredibly difficult time, our player Jesús Owono would like to personally share a few words," the post on X read.
The club went on to share Owono's first words since the tragic incident. The 25-year-old goalkeeper described it as 'the hardest day of his life'. He said (as translated by Sky News):
"These have been the hardest days of my life. I am struggling to find the words, and it is very difficult for me to process anything that has happened. I feel immense pain at the loss of Jesús. My thoughts are with him, his family and everyone who loved him.
"I know that there will be many questions to address and I will face up to whatever comes with respect. But right now, sincerely, I cannot think about anything other than Jesús and the pain that we are going through. Rest in peace, Jesús."
Earlier on Wednesday, FC Andorra defender Lautaro Spatz showed support for his teammate, who has been left 'deeply affected' by De Miguel's passing.
Spatz took to Instagram to firstly express how much the club has been impacted, before adding that Owono would 'never intentionally hurt anyone'.
The defender posted (per ESPN): "The entire FC Andorra squad has been in shock, devastated and deeply affected by what has happened. It is a tragedy that we could never have imagined experiencing on a football pitch.
"I also want to say a few words about my teammate, goalkeeper and friend, who is deeply affected by what has happened. Those of us who know him know the kind of person he is, how much he is suffering at this moment, and that he would never intentionally hurt anyone.
"In football, unfortunate incidents can happen, but no one could imagine that one of them might end with such tragic consequences."
