Lamar Jackson came back from a high ankle sprain that had cost him three games, and the Baltimore Ravens QB got through only one snap before getting hurt again in a game that snowballed into another loss. The defeat was Baltimore’s third straight after a 4-1 start, a skid that began with Tyler Huntley starting in Jackson’s place, and it dropped the Ravens to 4-4.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe made a sharp observation after the game, suggesting the Ravens should ship off Derrick Henry and their other assets and just start afresh.
In a post made on X, Sharpe outlined that the Ravens “should become sellers.” He singled out three players as exceptions. Notably, Derrick Henry was not among them.
He laid out his reasoning in the same post: “They’re not going anywhere. Start the rebuild for next season. This has been a very disappointing year, and it’s only half over.”
Sharpe also named his “exceptions” in a separate post: “Anyone except [Lamar] Jackson, [Zay] Flowers and [Kyle] Hamilton.”
Notably, Henry was not on that list. He scored the Ravens’ lone touchdown Sunday on a 2-yard run in the first quarter and finished with 53 yards on 11 carries.
His 632 rushing yards rank seventh in the NFL through Week 8, and his eight rushing touchdowns are tied for second, though his 4.0 yards per carry is tied for 29th of 46 qualified rushers. Pro Football Network’s NFL RB Impact Grade has him at 77.1 through Week 8, 15th of 45 running backs.
The first name on that list is the one Baltimore will be without due to injury. Bills pass rusher Greg Rousseau, reaching to knock down the throw, struck Jackson’s throwing hand on the only pass he attempted, and Jackson was ruled out for the rest of the game.
“It’s tough. When it happened, I think at the time, you’re just hoping that maybe it’s something small, and then I think pretty quickly kind of realized what had happened,” Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said. Asked whether Jackson’s stint on injured reserve could be season-ending, he answered “potentially,” adding “we’ll see.”
Meanwhile, PFN’s NFL WR Impact Grade has Flowers at 90.6 through Week 8, second of 83 wide receivers, but he finished Sunday’s game without a catch, a first in his career. “I want him to play, so I was upset,” Flowers said of losing Jackson.
The third name on Sharpe’s list, Hamilton made seven tackles at Buffalo, and PFN’s NFL S Impact Grade has him at 87.3 through Week 8, ninth of 89 safeties. The Ravens host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night in their only game left before the NFL’s Nov. 10 trade deadline.
