The hits keep on coming for the Seattle Seahawks.
Just two days after Caleb Williams' and Jeffery Simmons' Chicago Bears blew out the reigning Super Bowl champions in their own building, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald revealed that Sam Darnold will miss the team's Week 9 game against the Arizona Cardinals as he contends with a new quad injury. At 4-4, the last thing the Seahawks could afford is an unhealthy starting quarterback. The bad news for Seattle and Darnold is that while the quad will hold him out of Sunday's game, he also has a cracked rib, which he suffered during Monday night's loss to Chicago.
Macdonald explained that Darnold's cracked rib actually happened on the second play of the game when Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon leveled him on a blitz. When I watch a clip of the play again, yeah ... I can see how that might cause an injury:
For those of you keeping track, yes, that's two different new and painful injuries for the starting quarterback from last year's Super Bowl champion. I don't know the precise extent of Darnold's quad and rib injuries, but I'd imagine he will probably be making use of some serious pain medication for a little while. Here's hoping he heals well.
