Enzo Maresca singled out Brajan Gruda and Antonio Nusa for praise after Manchester City's hard-fought victory over RB Leipzig.
Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca singled out Brajan Gruda and Antonio Nusa following his side's hard-fought 3-2 win against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
Leipzig fought back twice on the night, with the mentioned duo causing the visitors huge problems before Erling Haaland eventually sealed all three points.
Speaking to DAZN after the match, Maresca acknowledged that his side did struggle at the Red Bull Arena.
“Tough game. For some moments, I think we controlled quite well, but for some moments we struggled a little bit,” the Italian admitted.
“But again, it's a Champions League game. Germany away, i's always difficult. So happy with the three points.”
When quizzed on the tactical challenges presented by Leipzig, Maresca identified Gruda and Nusa as the two main threats.
“They are well organised. They were aggressive. On the ball, they are dangerous, especially with the two wingers, Gruda and Nusa. So we need to be careful also for the transition,” he said, after taking on his former teammate Martín Demichelis - a manager who Maresca feels is doing a fine job in Saxony.
“A very good friend; we are very close. He's doing a fantastic job in the league. Also, in the Champions League, it's always difficult, and hopefully they can do better in the Champions League.”
For now, attention turns to Augsburg on Saturday, before Leipzig have the chance to bounce back against RC Lens in Europe at the end of the month.
City, on the other hand, are looking to end their run of league defeats on Saturday as they travel to Nottingham Forest before the international break, while Fulham and Napoli visit the Etihad Stadium after the pause.
