The 22-year-old has been included in Antonio Di Salvo’s 23-man squad for this month’s matches against Belgium and Croatia as preparations continue for next summer’s European Under-21 Championship.

Baur had previously been included in Jurgen Klopp’s extended 44-man Germany senior squad for the September and October internationals, raising the prospect of the Celtic midfielder making the step up to full international level.

He has not made the cut for the latest senior squad, but his return to the Under-21 set-up means he remains firmly in the international picture.

The call-up comes after Baur produced another impressive display for Celtic in Thursday night’s 3-2 Europa League victory over Besiktas.

Baur has become an increasingly influential figure in the Celtic midfield and will now join up with his country following the club’s weekend fixture.

Germany Under-21s face Belgium in Essen on November 13 before travelling to Croatia on November 17 for their final international fixture of 2026.
