Chelsea have many talented players, including Cole Palmer, whose form has improved compared with last season.

This term, the attacking midfielder has scored three goals and provided three assists in nine Premier League appearances. In the previous campaign, he only managed one assist in 26 games.

Palmer also has a couple of goals in the Carabao Cup, so it seems that his productivity is returning to what it once was. Yet the 24-year-old may not actually be the most skilful player at Chelsea!

Cole Palmer names Jamie Gittens as the most skilful player at Chelsea

Palmer was recently asked to name the most skilful footballer at Stamford Bridge right now, and his answer is likely to surprise many. In response, the Englishman said Jamie Gittens.

When asked the question on Sky Sports’ Saturday Social, he replied: “Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. I just think he has all the attributes, his skills, his stepovers. I’ve never seen stepovers like it.”

Cole Palmer and three other Chelsea stars snubbed! What do you make of Thomas Tuchel's England squad? 🤔 Morgan Rogers does makes the squad, though.

Unfortunately for Chelsea supporters, they have not been able to see Gittens’ skill because of all the injuries he has picked up since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund last year. He missed almost the entire second half of last season and has started this one on the sidelines.

It is a shame, as Gittens looked sharp in pre-season. And according to Palmer, there is not a more skilful player at Chelsea today.

Jamie Gittens’ dribbling stats in recent seasons

The stats certainly suggest that Gittens possesses a lot of skill. The 22-year-old is not a prolific forward yet, but he is a very efficient dribbler.

Last season, when Gittens was able to step onto the pitch, he completed 2.39 successful dribbles per 90 minutes, as per FotMob. The England Under-21 international had a dribble success rate of 61.9%, which means he outperformed 92.4% of other Premier League wingers.

The season before, Gittens’ was completing even more successful dribbles, averaging 3.88, and the campaign prior to that his average was 3.57.

In the Bundesliga, Gittens was a phenomenal dribbler, and we have seen glimpses of that at Chelsea. The objective for him now is to stay fit and show supporters even more.

Morgan Rogers is playing a lot of minutes and will need a breather occasionally, which Gittens could help provide, but only if he can stay fit.
