Ardrossan Accies maintain perfect start with Lenzie win

The Memorial Field side maintained their six-point lead atop National Division Four on Saturday with a 40-20 win away to Lenzie.

Despite going behind early, the visitors rallied thereafter and were comfortable in the match as they secured a bonus point victory.

Redpath admitted that the display was not vintage though said that earning maximum points and keeping their perfect start to the season going was the key aim after a week out of action.

He said: “It was good to get another win, that’s the most important thing, five more points and keeping moving forward.

“It was a frustrating performance because we done a lot of really good things but made a number of mistakes.

“We got ahead and sat back and let them back into it a wee bit before we scored a try at the end to make sure it was 100 per cent safe.

“All in all, I’m delighted with the win and to stay undefeated but, performance wise, there are a few things to work on over the next couple of weeks.”

Redpath now wants his side to keep working hard as they look to maintain their lead heading into the new year.

Ardrossan face a brief break from league action before a run of three games at the end of November and into December takes them into the back end of their campaign.

The head coach added: “Keeping the momentum and keeping in front is massive, that’s the big thing that we have to do.

“We need to make sure we deliver our performance, keep winning and put the pressure on everybody else.

“If we lose a game then we put the pressure on ourselves again but if someone said to me that, after eight games, we’d be on 40 points I’d be delighted with that.

“Now it’s about using the next few weeks to sort a few things and come out better, then the three games before Christmas are huge.”

Next up for Ardrossan is their opening National League Cup match away to National Division Three outfit Dumfries Saints.

Redpath says he is looking forward to his side testing themselves against higher-ranked opposition on Saturday, November 14.

He continued: “We’re looking forward to it because I think you need to keep looking forward and seeing if you can go down and compete with a team who are in the top half of the table.

“Dumfries have had a pretty good start to the season so it will be interesting to see how we match up against them.

“We just need to perform and, if we perform, we’ll not be too far away.”
