What Hull FC still need to recruit for 2027 with work to be done

The Black and Whites can be expected to remain active in the recruitment market

If there's one thing we've learned about Hull FC over the last couple of years, it's that they are almost always open for business in the transfer market.

And, despite having nine signings already wrapped up for the new season ahead, it's a fair assumption to suggest that Hull could still bring players in before the start of the season.

Of course, players are still expected to leave the club in the coming weeks and months, but as they look to balance out the squad, at least some will have to be replaced going forward into the new season.

The futures of Sam Lisone, Aidan Sezer and James Bell specifically are up in the air at present and right now, they seem like the most likely to be moved on by Hull.

Lisone was suspended by the club at the end of last season and his future at the MKM Stadium has not been cleared up just yet. An internal investigation is underway but he could well end up leaving FC.

As Hull Live reported earlier in the season, Sezer has been offered to a host of clubs, with York Knights and Bradford Bulls among those to show an interest. The half-back has skippered the club for the last two seasons but he doesn't currently have a place in the side for next year.

James Bell is another who could leave the club with Love Rugby League reporting Bradford's interest in the forward.

All three players would likely have to be replaced if they were to be let go, of course, and that brings us to where Hull could still look to recruit.

Josh Kerr appears to be on his way to East Yorkshire, with reports down under suggesting a multi-year deal has been agreed on that front. The former St George Illawarra Dragons prop fills a hole in the front-row and he's certainly needed in that regard, especially amid the uncertainty around Lisone.

Should Bell go, FC would need probably need another back-rower. Joe Batchelor and Ethan O'Neill can be expected to start in the second-row, with Connor Bailey, Lennon Clark and Ed Chamberlain offering depth.

John Asiata and Isaac Liu can both play 13, but the loss of Bell would provide the opening for another body to come into Steve McNamara's list of pack options, which would certainly come in handy, especially with many expecting Liu to play as a prop.

Sezer moving on would certainly open a spot for a playmaker to be signed, to offer cover beneath Will Pryce and Daly Cherry-Evans, too.

Hull have signed two centres already in Jordan Swann and Junior Pauga, but it's fair to say they still look a little short in the position for 2027.

The club do have centre options in case of injury and some are named above, but another specialist centre would certainly help provide competition for places and improve the strike in wide areas.

Plenty is still up in the air at present, but Hull's squad situation is a fluid one as they bid to build their ideal squad for next season.
