Man Utd news: Agreement reached on next manager as Glazers make rare statement

Michael Carrick's future has come under question in recent weeks - and a decision appears to have been made about a future Manchester United manager

Manchester United were back to winning ways in the week

The dark cloud hanging over Manchester United has lifted somewhat ahead of Sunday's home fixture against Aston Villa. Michael Carrick's men appeared destined for another damaging loss when they found themselves 2-0 down against Roma in the Champions League.

However, Carrick's future at the Red Devils remains a hot topic in the red half of Manchester. And a decision appears to have been made on the future of the club, should they decided to part ways with Carrick after their clash with Aston Villa.

Victory, accompanied by a convincing display, would further bolster Carrick's standing as United enter the international break. Here's a summary of the latest developments from Old Trafford...

Manchester United's managerial position

United are said to be keen on steering clear of appointing another caretaker manager should Carrick be shown the door. The club has developed a pattern of bringing in temporary bosses in recent times, reports the Mirror.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held the position before securing the role on a permanent basis. Following his dismissal in November 2021, Ralf Rangnick stepped in for the remainder of that campaign. Carrick himself served as caretaker manager during the latter part of last season.

However, Sky Sports reports that Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada, who oversee United's football operations, would prefer a permanent appointment rather than a temporary solution should they decide to part ways with Carrick.

The report suggests that United's leadership would take a 'long-term' view, recognising the crucial importance of their next managerial decision. For the time being, Carrick continues to have their backing.

Avram Glazer breaks silence

Co-chairman Avram Glazer has claimed the club's commercial strength isn't dependent on silverware.

Speaking to investors at Deutsche Bank's Sports Investment Conference in London, Glazer drew parallels between United and franchises like the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, suggesting they can sustain global appeal despite a lack of on-pitch success.

According to The Athletic, these remarks highlight ownership's conviction that United's brand value remains unshakeable, even as scrutiny intensifies on its leadership.

The comments are unlikely to sit well with United supporters, who revived their demonstrations against the Glazers, minority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe and club officials during the win over Roma.
