Liverpool picked up three big Premier League points on Sunday, as they rode their luck at times to eventually cruise to a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

The Reds were indebted to Alisson Becker, who picked himself up after a poor performance in midweek to give them a platform to build – and eventually thrive on.

There will have been frustration at having given up a clean sheet, all thanks to Milos Kerkez, but this was a good win for Liverpool on a day where Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Bradley Barcola all contributed. Here’s how we rated the players at Selhurst Park.

Defence

Alisson Becker: 8 (Man of the Match) – Alisson has been questioned after a bad evening in the Champions League on Wednesday, but he was brilliant at Selhurst Park. A flying save from Daichi Kamada’s volley and a dive at the feet of Yeremy Pino were the standouts, but he also kept his eye on the ball to save a glancing header from Adam Wharton and was commanding whenever anything came into the box. Very pleasing to see.

Ronald Araujo: 6 – Looked a little sluggish early on and picked up a booking for a late challenge. Improved from there and played his part in the second goal, playing a lovely ball into the channel for Bradley Barcola to chase.

Jeremy Jacquet: 6 – The better of the two centre-backs, Jacquet bounced back from a poor display on Wednesday to show his true colours in South London.

Virgil van Dijk: 5 –

Milos Kerkez: 2 – Disastrous on the ball and positionally, this was more evidence that Kerkez is not cut out to be Liverpool’s first-choice left-back. Inexplicably out of position for Kamada’s first half volley, he then played Eddie Nketiah onside late in the game for a chance. Passed the ball straight down the line out of play moments later, with Mac Allister free and in space infield. Compounded it by giving away a ridiculous penalty at the end. Just not good enough in any aspect.

Midfield

Alexis Mac Allister: 7 –

Dominik Szoboszlai: 5 – A mixed performance from Szoboszlai who was largely very good with his set-piece delivery – as seen by his assist for Mac Allister’s opener – but he was not great in open play, giving the ball away too often and contributing to Liverpool being easy to bypass in midfield.

Florian Wirtz: 6 –

Attack

Cody Gakpo: 3 – Gakpo’s best moment came early in the game, when he latched onto a deep ball in to volley across the six yard box. After that he was fairly anonymous, and must now be looking over his shoulder at both Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz, who both looked more threatening.

Alexander Isak: 6 – Missed the chance to go through one-v-one with Dean Henderson after a poor touch in the first half. Waited all game for another chance, and should have done better when slipped through by Munoz in the closing minutes, but fired straight at Henderson. There was still time for one more, though, and he didn’t pass up on another chance, bobbling past the goalkeeper after good work from Munoz and Wirtz.

Bradley Barcola: 4 – Blazed high over the bar at 0-0 when picked out by Szoboszlai on the volley at the back post in a moment which summed up his Liverpool career so far. Did well to cross for Wirtz to make it 2-0, but this was another poor performance on the whole.

Substitutes

Victor Munoz: 7 – Brilliant when he came on, providing so much threat down the right. Palace couldn’t live with his pace, and he linked up beautifully with Isak on a number of occasions.

Trey Nyoni: 7 – Unlucky not to start, but Nyoni was never really going to make three starts in a week. Came on and settled things down, playing with the composure and intelligence which is becoming a trademark.

Lewis Koumas: N/A

Joe Gomez: N/A
