Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are not playing this week at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open.

Scheffler always has some time off around this time of year, while McIlroy plays four or five events around the globe.

The world number one will not play again until the Hero World Challenge in December, while McIlroy will finish off his season in the Middle East on the DP World Tour.

Meanwhile, Andrew Novak is actually one of the bigger names in the field this week at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open.

TalkingPoints

Do you think Jackson Koivun is more likely to win his first major than Brooks Koepka is to win his sixth next year? 🤔

The 31-year-old shot a round of 62 on Saturday in Mexico and he will take a six-shot lead over Matthieu Pavon into the final round on Sunday.

Novak spoke about the difficulty of winning on the PGA Tour after his third round at Vidanta Vallarta, but highlighted how Scheffler and McIlroy are exceptions to that rule.

The visibly delighted American spoke with reporters after shooting a special round of 62 on Saturday at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open.

Novak was asked how much a win and the subsequent two-year exemption would mean to him on Sunday in Mexico.

“Yeah, it would be my first solo one, so that would be very big,“ Novak replied.

“And then obviously there are implications for, what, 2028 and beyond. Yeah, it would be huge.

“We don’t — unless you’re Scottie or Rory, you don’t get to win a ton in golf so any opportunity to do so is pretty nice.“

It’s an interesting point from Novak. Scheffler’s career PGA Tour win rate stands at 12.9%, while McIlroy has a 10.5% return.

Many golfers go through their entire careers without winning on the PGA Tour, while the majority of professionals fail to win multiple times.

Andrew Novak has the chance to win for the second time on the PGA Tour on Sunday in Mexico, but this time it would be a solo win. If he channels his inner Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy he’ll be just fine.
