The field for the WTA Finals is now complete, with Karolina Muchova securing the eighth and final spot.

Muchova was battling for that spot with the likes of Marta Kostyuk and Iga Swiatek, but injuries quickly ended that race. Kostyuk retired hurt in her first match at the Ningbo Open, while Swiatek has ended her season following her withdrawal from Ningbo because of a thigh injury.

Muchova has just joined Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Mirra Andreeva, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Elina Svitolina and Linda Noskova in qualifying for the WTA Finals this year.

The year-end tournament returns to the calendar next month, with tennis fans understandably already excited to see the top WTA players in action. But they should be even more excited given what the entire field has achieved this season.

Why tennis fans should be extremely excited for the WTA Finals

In a truly extraordinary scenario, every player who will be at the WTA Finals has won either a Grand Slam title or a WTA 1000 title in the 2026 season. That should make for a very competitive and entertaining tournament, with fans undoubtedly divided over who will go on to lift the trophy.

World number one Rybakina claimed Grand Slam success at both the Australian Open and the US Open, starting and finishing the major season on top. In between, Mirra Andreeva claimed her maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open, and Linda Noskova produced a shock run at Wimbledon to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, a total of nine players emerged victorious at the 10 WTA 1000 tournaments in 2026, starting with Muchova in Doha. Pegula then triumphed in Dubai, before Sabalenka became the fifth woman in the Open Era to complete the Sunshine Double by winning Indian Wells and Miami.

After that, Kostyuk clinched the Madrid title, with Svitolina and Swiatek following suit in Rome and Toronto respectively. And completing the campaign, Gauff won in Cincinnati, Qinwen Zheng won in Beijing, and Maja Chwalinska won in Wuhan.

It was Rybakina who went all the way at the 2025 WTA Finals, taking over the crown from Gauff in 2024. Taking place on hard court, this year’s tournament will get underway on November 8, and will conclude on November 15. The event comprises a round-robin format between two groups of four, with the top two players progressing to the knockout stages.
