The Red Devils’ winless run stretched to nine games thanks to a 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, but Carrick remains in charge of the club, with the Old Trafford hierarchy continuing to place their trust in the 45-year-old.

It has been widely reported that Carrick is likely to be sacked if Man Utd’s current form doesn’t improve soon, however he is not yet feeling the pressure.

During his pre-match press conference ahead of Man Utd’s Champions League clash against AS Roma on Tuesday evening, Carrick was asked if he feels as though he has two games left to save his job at Old Trafford.

“No, not at all,” he replied. “You never know what is going to happen in the future, but that doesn't change the way I feel.

“I can't wait for the game tomorrow. You might think I'm crazy with the results we've had, but I can't wait for it.

“The dressing room is in a good place. Perception is a funny thing, you can make things look in different ways. The commitment from the players, to the club and each other, I don't question that at all.”

Carrick added: “It's what I am, it's what I live for, a lot of people could do my job when you're winning games. It hasn't changed my mindset (bad results).”

Meanwhile, Red Devils midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was keen to back Carrick despite the club’s recent run of poor form.

“I feel like our way to repay that is to be behind the manager on and off the pitch, and fight as a team,” the England international said.

“Very grateful to the boss for putting trust in me as soon as he came in, with all the advice that he passed on, I take those words to heart and try to take them into games.”

Next Man Utd manager odds

While Carrick believes he will be given the opportunity to fix Man Utd’s dismal recent form, he remains the bookies’ odds-on favourite to become the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season.

Former Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is currently regarded as the most likely candidate to replace Carrick in the Old Trafford dugout if the Man Utd hierarchy opt to make a managerial change, although there are several other contenders too.

Antonio Conte is a strong option after leaving Napoli over the summer, while Unai Emery, Julian Nagelsmann and Fabian Hurzeler have all been heavily linked with the job in recent days.
