Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate to solve their goalscoring woes this winter. There is no hiding from the fact that missing out on an out-and-out No.9 in the summer transfer window was a major blow for Roberto De Zerbi.
Omar Marmoush arrived on a season-long loan from Manchester City in August, but the 27-year-old has struggled to improve Tottenham’s attack. He has just one goal to his name, which came in the 3-1 win over Coventry City last month. Dominic Solanke’s contributions have also been far from desired, while Richarlison remains frozen out of the squad.
Roberto De Zerbi will be keen to change that as soon as possible, and it isn’t long until January.
Spurs were reportedly keen on signing Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney during the 2026 January transfer window. The then-Tottenham boss Thomas Frank was eyeing a reunion with the former Brentford star to solve the team’s goalscoring woes. However, a move did not materialise.
Now, according to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Ivan Toney is back on Tottenham’s radar. Manchester United are eyeing the 30-year-old as a serious option, while there is interest from Newcastle United and Everton.
The Englishman was a prolific goalscorer during his time at Brentford. Since moving to Al-Ahli in 2024, he has continued to showcase his goalscoring prowess, scoring 30 goals and registering five assists across all competitions in his debut season. Last season, he netted 40 goals and supplied 11 assists in 48 appearances in all tournaments. Toney has also won two AFC Champions League Elite trophies and a Saudi Super Cup with Al-Ahli.
The Northampton-born talent was a part of the England squad that finished third at the 2026 World Cup. After a couple of years in Saudi Arabia, the centre-forward could be tempted to return to his homeland.
From Spurs’ perspective, they would be signing a proven, prolific striker who would represent an immediate upgrade on Solanke. At 30, Toney is in his peak years and has consistently demonstrated that he possesses the qualities needed to excel in a top league. His clinical finishing, combined with his ability to link up effectively with other attackers, makes the ex-Brentford talisman an ideal target for the upcoming transfer window.
However, any deal will depend on whether Toney is willing to switch leagues midway through the campaign and accept a wage cut to join the North Londoners.
