Galli reveals details of Cardinale’s speech at legends dinner: “Heartfelt and sincere”

Before the Inter game, AC Milan invited several legends to a dinner hosted by Gerry Cardinale to honour them.

In recent years, there has maybe been an avoidance of celebrating the club’s history. Iconic players have been overlooked and the past hasn’t been at the forefront. Of course, the present takes precedence, but it’s almost like the rich history of Milan has been overlooked.

There have been a few nods to the past, as well as a few kits with historic hints. Yet, you’d be lying if you said that the club were completely honouring the legends that had represented them before.

Cardinale’s dinner

Now, things are seemingly changing. The Hall of Fame presentation was the most public display of affection, but Cardinale also hosted a dinner for the club’s legends. In attendance of the dinner was Filippo Galli, and he’s offered some information on what happened, praising the American for the event, as MilanNews relays from his interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He spoke for a good half hour, and I found it to be heartfelt and sincere. I’d particularly emphasise the mea culpa for the mistakes made. I’d say it’s a good start; his words seemed heartfelt, and not necessary. But there’s still a long way to go.

“He insisted that he will continue to invest. I’d say he understands how soccer works in Italy, compared to the American one, where everything is more relaxed.

“He then spoke kindly of Berlusconi’s career at the club, emphasising, however, that Berlusconi would now be dealing with a changed world, where financial sustainability becomes vital. Now we’re waiting for something to happen…

“Right now, there’s a January transfer window to address, a technical area to sort out and define. There’s a need to establish high-level governance; otherwise the coach will be left alone, and if by chance the results don’t arrive…

“Did this dinner organised by Cardinale surprise me? Actually, yes, we weren’t expecting it. The invitation came from Milan a couple of weeks earlier. For us, these are opportunities to meet up with former teammates, to represent Milan. And this, regardless of who owns the club.”
