Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was stretchered off the field following a deeply concerning injury, leaving several of his teammates visibly emotional.

The highest-paid linebacker in NFL history sustained the injury while attempting a tackle, during which his facemask became caught, causing his head to lower as he hit the ground and remain there.

Lions medical personnel rushed to the field immediately, halting play for more than five minutes. Replays were notably absent on FOX, with commentators Tom Brady and Kevin Burkhardt visibly subdued during their broadcast.

Lions star Aidan Hutchinson was seen in tears while addressing his teammates, his anxiety for Campbell unmistakable. The entire Lions roster gathered on the field to show their support as Campbell departed on a stretcher, en route to the hospital.

Campbell had cemented his status as the highest-paid off-ball linebacker in NFL history this offseason, having inked a four-year, $81 million extension with the Lions.

Their ongoing matchup with the Minnesota Vikings continued, with head coach Dan Campbell expected to provide journalists with an update on the linebacker's condition during his post-game press conference.

Brady and Burkhardt were visibly shaken, addressing the injury only briefly given the clear gravity of the situation. FOX cut to commercial breaks twice while medical staff remained on the field.

The Lions have since confirmed that Campbell was rushed to the hospital with a neck injury, where he is currently undergoing evaluation. The game was being played in Detroit, with the team at a local hospital.

The Lions secured victory against the Vikings, ending their winning streak in what marked their first loss of the season - leaving no remaining undefeated teams.

Detroit's victory brings their record to 5-2 while the Vikings stand at 6-1, as they battle alongside the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears in what might be the toughest division in football this season.

All four NFC North teams boast winning records, with the Bears set to face the Seahawks in the Pacific Northwest on Monday Night Football.
