Celtic fans will quickly want to erase the defeat to Celta Vigo in the Europa League on Thursday night, but the same can’t be said for their opponents.

Celta have played in Europe before, including in the Champions League, but their trip to Glasgow was a very special one and very unique in their eyes.

Footage on their social media account showed supporters walking into the stadium and the famous Celtic anthem blaring through their speakers before their goalless draw against Real Betis.

It’s a clear nod to the connection Celta fans now have, not just with Celtic, but also with the Irish community, as they added in the caption: ‘In Vigo we do not forget what happened in Glasgow.’

Hopefully, Celtic will continue to play Celta on the European stage in the near future, preferably in the Champions League, but that’s another matter for the Hoops supporters.

Saying that, it wouldn’t be a surprise if some sort of friendly game in the summer is organised between the two, either in Glasgow or Vigo.

Either way, it’s great to see that Celta’s Europa League clash against Celtic has meant a lot to the club and their supporters going forward.
