It looks as if the Oregon Ducks will likely be without one of their top players on Saturday in a must-win game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, starting running back Jordon Davison is expected to miss the Week 10 game with a lower-body injury that was suffered in the first quarter of last week's win over the Northwestern Wildcats. While Davison will likely miss this game, Zenitz reports that it isn't expected to hold him out long-term, a message that head coach Dan Lanning relayed on Monday night during his weekly press conference.
Davison caught a screen pass from quarterback Dylan Raiola in the first quarter of Saturday's game and was tackled, going down awkwardly with his right knee twisting under him. He got up limping and went to the locker room with trainers not long after.
Davison later emerged from the locker room after the half in street clothes and on crutches.
So far this season, Davison is Oregon's leading rusher with 91 attempts for 439 yards and seven touchdowns. Without him, the Ducks would usually look to Dierre Hill, who has 83 rushes for 399 yards and three touchdowns, but there are also some questions about Hill's availability as well. In the second quarter of Saturday's game, the sophomore came up a little bit gimpy after getting hit near the sideline and did not return to the game.
In relief, true freshman running back Brandon Smith had a breakout performance, rushing eight times for 83 yards and a touchdown, while also catching four passes for 32 yards.
We will learn more about the status of both Hill and Davison on Wednesday night when the Big Ten Availability Report is released at 5 p.m. PT.
