Terence Crawford has once again hinted that he could come out of retirement after calling out another legend of the sport.
Crawford has been retired for nearly a year now, having hung up the gloves in December after his impressive unanimous decision win over Canelo Alvarez in their undisputed super-middleweight title back in September 2025.
In recent months, ‘Bud’ has been called out by the likes of Jaron Ennis and Ryan Garcia, while Canelo has also made his hopes of a rematch perfectly clear after his win over WBC super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli this past Saturday.
Crawford took to social media on Tuesday to tease a potential return, but he has now turned his attention to another big name, after discussing a potential clash with Floyd Mayweather in a new post on X.
“There’s a reason they want me to come back. They had yall fooled thinking I couldn’t sell and wasn’t marketable. now look I’m the ticket. F**k it Floyd me and you would crash everything. GOAT vs GOAT F**k it.”
After retiring back in 2017 with a 50-0 record, Mayweather has been rumoured to return throughout 2026, having initially been lined up to face heavyweight icon Mike Tyson in an exhibition, before a rematch against former foe Manny Pacquiao was then set to take place.
Neither of those have since come to fruition, but that hasn’t stopped Mayweather now being linked to a WBC welterweight title fight with Garcia himself, though the 49-year-old is first set to have an exhibition against Australian Matt Floyd in Bangkok on December 19.
It isn’t the first time that Crawford has joked about getting back in the ring, so it remains doubtful that a clash with Mayweather could happen, but stranger things have certainly happened in boxing and it would be a massive spectacle if it was to occur.
