Cristiano Ronaldo receives backing to become Manchester United owner

Exciting news could be on the horizon for Manchester United fans, with club legend Cristiano Ronaldo backed to become owner of the Red Devils.

Cristiano Ronaldo receives backing to become Manchester United owner

Cristiano Ronaldo has brought an extraordinary chapter of football history to an end, announcing his retirement from international football with Portugal on Thursday.

For supporters around the world, it is an emotional occasion, but also an opportunity to remember one of the greatest careers the sport has witnessed.

The 41-year-old leaves Portugal with 146 goals in 234 appearances, having won Euro 2016 and two Nations League titles.

At Manchester United, Ronaldo’s legacy remains unforgettable.

Arriving from Sporting CP in 2003, the Portuguese superstar developed under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning three Premier League titles, the 2008 Champions League and his first Ballon d’Or.

He returned to Old Trafford in 2021, although his second spell ended acrimoniously in November 2022.

During his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo accused the Glazer family of prioritising commercial interests over sporting success.

“The Glazers, they don’t care about the club,” he declared, describing United as a marketing operation.

Those concerns remain relevant today.

United have not won the Premier League since 2013, while supporters continue protesting against the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS.

Now, Ronaldo’s future has sparked another intriguing possibility.

Cristiano Ronaldo receives backing for Manchester United ownership

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, former United strength and conditioning coach Mick Clegg backed Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford as manager or owner.

“I think he’d love to be Man United manager or owner,” Clegg explained.

Clegg spent 11 years working at United and developed a close relationship with Ronaldo during his first spell.

He believes the Portuguese legend’s meticulous planning and determination could translate into a successful career beyond playing.

“I think he’d be special as a manager, because he’s open-minded, he listens to people.”

Clegg also recalled Ronaldo’s early ambition to surpass Ryan Giggs’ dedication in the gym, illustrating his relentless mentality.

For now, the possibility remains a fascinating endorsement from someone who knows him well.
