Exmouth Town to host Paulton Rovers after Worcester draw

Town had made the trip to Worcester on the back of a disappointing display last Wednesday evening when they were beaten 3-1 by Barnstaple Town.

Town had the chance to open the scoring when Matt Wright set up Tom Chastey to race clear but his effort was comfortably saved.

A generally lethargic first half performance compounded by individual mistakes saw Barnstaple score three times in 10 minutes to lead at the break.

Despite an improvement in the second half, Town only had another headed goal from Wright to show for their efforts and can have no complaints at the result.

One positive for Town was the form shown by new signing James Watts-Barciela.

Signed on dual registration forms with Weston-super-Mare he had spent last season at Plymouth Parkway but his move to Weston has been hampered by injury.

Looking for game time to reach match fitness, he again featured at Worcester where Town had chances to win in what was an entertaining 0-0 draw.

The Raiders, promoted to the Southern League this season, have made a positive start having only lost four of their seventeen starts and started this game brightly without unduly troubling Town’s defence.

As Town grew into the game Ben Steer set up Chastey but he was quickly closed down by the home ‘keeper.

Watts-Barciela had a shot flash by the post as Town increased the pressure.

Level at the break, the second half started in a similar style with Town adequately dealing with the home side’s attacks.

Ethan Slater had one effort cleared off the line and not for the first time this season Town were involved in an almighty goalmouth scramble but were unable to force the ball home and seal victory.

A good point on the road, however, and a welcome clean sheet.

Promoted back to the Southern League via the Western League playoffs, Paulton are three points behind Town having beaten Bristol Manor Farm and Barnstaple Town and six draws including Tiverton Town and Worcester Raiders.
