A giant effigy of Gianni Infantino is set to be burnt at a well-known annual fireworks festival.
The Edenbridge Bonfire celebration, held at the Recreation Ground, has unveiled the president of Fifa will be this year’s guy.
Today (November 4), the Edenbridge Bonfire Society invited the press to get a first look at who or what the enormous effigy will be.
The organisers have revealed it will be the Swiss-Italian football administrator and lawyer, who has served as the president of Fifa since February 2016.
It comes after he faced intense pressure and calls to resign following a controversial proposal to sell private investment stakes in World Cup commercial and broadcast rights.
A torch-lit procession will start in the town at around 6.30pm on Saturday, with the fireworks display kicking off a couple of hours later.
It’s one of Kent’s best-known bonfire celebrations, and every year since 1994, they have burnt an 11-metre-tall Guy Fawkes and celebrity effigy using a mixture of gunpowder and flames.
The celebrity effigy is always a major talking point in the lead-up to the event, with last year being Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
They chose him after the backlash over the digital ID and winter fuel payment plans.
Previous years have included ticket sales website Ticketmaster, complete with Oasis duo Liam and Noel Gallagher, as well as London Mayor Sadiq Khan after his controversial ULEZ scheme.
The society has been celebrating Bonfire Night for over 90 years and has been known to feature more than 750 people in its torch-lit parade through Edenbridge High Street.
They will be joined by visiting Sussex bonfire societies, along with brightly lit carnival floats, costumed walking parties and marching bands.
Everyone then makes their way to the Recreation Ground, off Lingfield Road, where there will be music as well as food and drink stalls.
The procession, which is free to watch, begins at 6.30pm, with the fireworks taking place at around 8.30pm.
Edenbridge Bonfire celebration is set to take place on Saturday, November 7. Tickets for the fireworks are £9 for adults and £4 for children.
There will be several road closures in the area between 6pm and 10pm, so please check edenbridgebonfire.co.uk for more information.
