Cristhian Stuani returns to Girona’s matchday squad for Saturday’s fixture against Celta Fortuna at Montilivi, providing a timely boost as head coach Quique Álvarez manages a mounting list of physical setbacks. The forward’s availability offers an immediate focal point for a team looking to build momentum on home soil, though the coaching staff continues to manage several significant absentees across the roster.

Squad Updates and Injury Concerns at Montilivi

Girona enters the weekend fixture without Jastin and Boñar, both sidelined by ongoing recovery timelines. Álvarez confirmed that Boñar faces an extended absence following an ankle injury sustained earlier, noting that while the bone escaped major damage, the joint remains heavily affected. Jastin continues his rehabilitation but is not yet ready for competitive action, leaving the technical staff cautious about rushing his return. Meanwhile, Bryan Gil remains a doubt for Saturday after picking up a knock, having previously found the net against Andorra.

Tactical Adjustments and the Search for Midfield Fluency

Addressing the team’s attacking patterns, Álvarez emphasized a pragmatic approach to breaking down defensive structures. The Girona manager noted that recent additions like Pyshchur provide alternative physical profiles that the squad must utilize effectively depending on the match context. The technical staff has similarly addressed the limited integration of Vanat, attributing the adjustment period to a lack of shared playing time during the summer pre-season. With Van de Beek and Abel frequently deployed in supporting roles behind the central striker, Álvarez acknowledged that the side is still working to establish fluidity in the attacking midfield channel, pointing to Van de Beek’s knack for arrival as a valuable tactical asset.

Álvarez Defends Squad Rotation and Selection Criteria

Addressing roster decisions, including Junior’s recent placement on the bench following an influential start to the league campaign, Álvarez maintained a firm stance on selection criteria. The manager stated that he does not provide explanations for individual omissions, emphasizing that squad rotation stems purely from tactical game plans rather than underperformance. Pointing to a high level of internal competition during training sessions, Álvarez expressed confidence in the depth of his squad as they prepare to face an energetic reserve side.

Evaluating the Challenge from Celta Fortuna

Looking ahead to Saturday’s opponent, Álvarez cautioned against underestimating the visiting reserve team, describing Celta Fortuna as a technically sound and physically strong group that mirrors the tactical identity of its parent club. The fixture carries unique psychological challenges for players accustomed to facing senior opposition, making early concentration essential if Girona hopes to secure consecutive home victories.
