The Chicago Bears have removed a clip featuring Luther Burden III from DeAndre Smith's touchdown celebration video, after the wide receiver appeared to direct a disrespectful gesture toward Seattle Seahawks fans.
Chicago clinched a commanding 34-17 victory over the Seahawks on Monday night, with Swift scoring three second-half touchdowns to seal the win. After holding a 13-9 lead at halftime, Swift pushed the advantage further with a one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, then added two more five-yard scores in the fourth - including one that came shortly after Seattle had narrowed the gap to 20-17.
In the aftermath of Smith's second touchdown, Burden appeared to taunt the home crowd, gesturing toward Seahawks fans and motioning for them to pipe down. The Bears subsequently edited the moment out of their official touchdown celebration footage.
Despite the controversy, Burden delivered a standout performance, further cementing his reputation as a dependable target for second-year quarterback Caleb Williams. The receiver hauled in all four of his targets during a pivotal 17-play, 80-yard drive, finishing it off with a one-yard touchdown.
Burden also proved crucial in keeping the drive alive, snagging a five-yard reception on third-and-four before breaking open the Bears' first explosive passing play of the night with a 23-yard gain. He wrapped up the evening with seven receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Williams also delivered an impressive performance, racking up 247 passing yards and completing 71% of his attempts while avoiding any turnovers. He was brought down just once by one of the league's most formidable defenses.
Following the game, Bears head coach Ben Johnson commended his quarterback's poise, stating: "We knew it was going to be challenging and this was one of the more elaborate game plans in terms of what we were asking (Williams) to do as well. He stayed calm and collected throughout. I think that there are some times where it can get a little bit chaotic and yet he didn't allow that to happen."
Jeffery Simmons made an instant contribution in his Chicago debut after being acquired from Tennessee in a blockbuster trade last week involving two first-round selections.
The defensive lineman registered a sack on Seattle's initial possession, added another stop behind the line of scrimmage and totaled six tackles along with one pass breakup. His display helped Chicago restrict the Seahawks to just 252 total yards and a dismal one-for-11 conversion rate on third downs.
The loss saddles the reigning Super Bowl champions with three defeats in their past four outings, jeopardizing their standing in the NFC postseason hunt. It also snapped Seattle's remarkable 30-game stretch without suffering a defeat by more than four points, the fourth-longest such streak in the Super Bowl era.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald expressed his frustration following the loss, stating: "We got beat. No other way to sugar coat it. When you look at the things that it takes to win in our league, we didn't do those things and they did."
The Bears aim to capitalize on their win as they head back home to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night.
