Vadodara, October 23: The Indian women's cricket team is all set to continue its winning momentum from the T20I series as they face Zimbabwe in the first One-Day International (ODI) at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi today. Zimbabwe, after winning the toss, opted to bat first.

Adding a new face to the Indian squad, all-rounder Jintimani Kalita from Assam has been handed her ODI debut, a move that has generated considerable buzz among cricket enthusiasts. Captain Smriti Mandhana expressed her excitement about Kalita's inclusion, highlighting her strong performance in the India A series.

Zimbabwe will be led by Nomvelo Sibanda in the absence of regular captain Josephine Nkomo, who is nursing a niggle. Sibanda emphasized her team's strategy to put runs on the board and create scoreboard pressure. "We want to put runs on the board, put scoreboard pressure. We want our batters to dominate," she stated, underscoring their intent to build on positive aspects from previous matches.

Mandhana, while acknowledging that India would have preferred to bat first, noted the team's readiness to chase. She also mentioned the significant changes in the ODI squad compared to the T20I lineup, indicating a strategic shift for the longer format. The team is keen to adapt quickly to the 50-over game, a format where India has historically performed well.
