Ryan Gravenberch is once again absent for Liverpool as the Reds take on Crystal Palace today, with the midfielder also set to be missing for the Netherlands during the international break.
Today’s encounter at Selhurst Park will be the third game in a row that Gravenberch has not played in, having been left on the bench against Arsenal last weekend before missing the trip to Fenerbahce in the Champions League in midweek.
He misses out on the Reds’ final game before the international break, despite Andoni Iraola raising hopes in his pre-match press conference on Friday that he could still feature against Palace.
“The Ryan Gravenberch thing is a day-to-day thing, it’s a matter of pain,” Iraola told reporters. “Let’s see if he can deal with the pain and he can help us.”
Before speaking to the media, Gravenberch had already been confirmed to be missing the upcoming international break, which gets underway following today’s game. The 24-year-old was not included in the Netherlands’ squad, which features Liverpool teammates Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo.
It was revealed before Liverpool’s trip to Turkiye that Gravenberch was suffering from a heel problem, with Iraola confirming: “It’s a fracture of the heel. It’s about the pain. He has been with some discomfort.
“The other day against Arsenal he was warming up and he was not fully confident. He hasn’t improved since then.
“But it’s going to be something that every day we ask him, every day we see how he is.”
Iraola will hope Gravenberch can make a return following the international break, with Liverpool’s next game after today’s clash with Palace coming against Manchester United on November 22.
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
The Reds have five players in total out injured at the moment, inclduing Gravenberch. Fellow Dutchman Jeremie Frimpong is also absent with a muscle injury, having been missing since limping off just minutes after coming on as a substitute against Brentford last month.
The right-back is hoped to be able to make a return to training during the international break, when the club will also hope for some progress from its long-term absentees.
Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike are all still recovering from their respective issues, and are all expected to make a return to action before the end of the year.
