Former Governor of Alaska Palin, 62, was spotted wiping away tears as the Rangers paid an emotional tribute before their game against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night.

A second tribute video was then played on the jumbotron at Madison Square Garden as Duguay’s entire family, including longtime girlfriend Palin, were brought out.

The tribute was met with silence before fans made their voices heard for the legendary Rangers centre.

Palin announced Duguay’s death on social media last Thursday, nearly two years after he had been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

“It’s with a shattered heart, but also deep peace knowing Ron is with Jesus now,” Palin wrote.

“He fought so hard. Love never ends.”

Duguay’s daughter Shay had also shared a special message for her father before the game.

“Welcome to New York, can’t wait to honor Dad in his town,” Shay wrote on her Instagram Story.

And fans have come out in full force to share their love for the former Ranger and his grieving family.

“Classy guy, classy family. Rest in Peace, Rangers Great,” one fan on X said.

“All the best to Ranger nation – may he rest in peace,” another commented.

Duguay spent 12 seasons in the league after being picked by the Rangers 13th-overall in the 1977 NHL Draft.

He spent six seasons with the Rangers before signing with the Detroit Red Wings in 1983.

This was followed by moves to the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Kings, joining German side Mannheim in 1989 to mark the end of his NHL career.
