Claudio Borghi abruptly walked off a live television broadcast after fellow panelist Juvenal Olmos compared Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona during a debate over football’s most decisive figures, Cooperativa reported.
The broadcast of the TNT Sports program “Todos Somos Técnicos” turned contentious during a discussion weighing legendary Argentine players against one another.
Olmos, the former manager of Universidad Católica and the Chile national team, delivered an assessment that immediately triggered a sharp reaction from the panel. “As a footballer, Maradona was half of what Messi was, or not?” Olmos stated during the broadcast.
The remark directly challenged Borghi, a World Cup winner with Argentina in 1986 who also managed Colo Colo and coached the Chilean national team. Visibly agitated by the comparison, Borghi stood up from his chair, unclipped his microphone, and headed for the exit while speaking directly to the panel.
“I’m leaving, I’m leaving. Are you really going to say that?” Borghi asked as he walked away.
Rather than attempting to defuse the tension on set, Olmos responded immediately to Borghi’s departure. “Well, go. If you don’t want to debate, go,” Olmos said on air as Borghi retreated toward the exit.
The exchange intensified before Borghi passed out of camera range, shouting a final critique of his colleague’s analytical approach. “No, no. That’s not debating, that’s talking nonsense,” Borghi said.
