Troy Aikman’s ESPN replacement shortlist include Fox NFL Sunday legend and Kansas City Chiefs icon Travis Kelce

GREG OLSON is reportedly among the favorites to replace Troy Aikman on ESPN’s Monday Night Football show.

Aikman, 59, is likely to leave the network after having an argument with long-time broadcasting partner Joe Buck, according to Front Office Sports.

The pair have worked together for 25 years but the incident on October 12 has led to friction in the studio.

The tension is said to have started after Buck was offered a new six-year deal with ESPN, while Aikman is yet to receive an offer.

And things “boiled over” between the duo when Buck attempted to “break the ice” with Aikman before they called the Rams vs Bills on Monday.

If Aikman does depart, Olsen is a leading favourite to take over as an analyst, the report goes on.

Olsen, 41, previously called a Super Bowl for Fox, where he currently works alongside Joe Davis.

The former Carolina Panthers tight end was in discussions to join the Monday Night Football team in 2018 but ended up prolonging his football career at the time.

Legendary pair Peyton and Eli Manning are also in the running to replace Aikman, the report claims.

The Super Bowl winning brothers once hosted the Monday Night Football simulcast but might have difficulty in their schedule as both of them have school-age children.

The more “realistic” options include Jason Kelce and Kurt Warner, who will call four live games for ESPN and the NFL Network this season.

There is also Louis Riddick – who was part of the MNF team from 2020-21 before Aikman and Buck took over.

And Jason McCourty, who is often seen on NFL Live, First Take and SportsCenter, is also a candidate and could form part of a three man booth with Riddick.

Other left-field possibilities for hosting duties include Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, who looks to be headed towards retirement, and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford – who has also been linked with a role at ESPN.

Rams coach Sean McVay could also find himself available amid his team’s struggles at 2-4 as they battle to make the playoffs.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Luke Kuechly and ex-Cowboys star Tony Romo are both seen as “long shots” for the position.

Aikman recently discussed his future with the network in a conversation with Dallas radio 96.7 The Ticket.

He said: “There’s probably a time and a place for all that to be discussed. I don’t know if now is the time.

“I don’t know that it’s hard to figure out kind of what happened. I’ll broadcast through this season and I’ll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens.

“I’m looking forward to whatever the rest of this year does hold, and the Super Bowl and all that, and where my next landing spot may be.”
