Celtic have been ordered to play their next home fixture in the Scottish Cup behind closed doors after their appeal was only partially upheld.

Both Celtic and Rangers were ordered to play two home cup ties behind closed doors as a form of punishment for the scenes that followed the Hoops’ penalty shootout win at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup in March.

As well as the ban, both sides were also handed £100,000 fines but following their appeal, there has been a slight change.

When will Celtic play their Scottish Cup game behind closed doors?

After having the appeal partially upheld, the Hoops and Rangers will only have to play one home tie each behind closed doors, but will still be required to pay the fine.

The fourth round of the competition takes place on the weekend of 16 January 2027, meaning that if Martin O’Neill’s side are drawn to play at Celtic Park, they will play without fans then.

However, if drawn away, the punishment will roll over until they are drawn as the home team.

Since the debacle at Ibrox, both teams have faced each other in the Premier Sports Cup and Scottish Premiership.

Rangers initially offered Celtic 300 tickets for the cup game but the Hoops rejected it and had no away fans present. The same happened for the blue side of Glasgow when the league fixture was played at Parkhead a week later.

No away fans will be permitted at any of the remaining Glasgow derby fixtures, unless they face each other at Hampden Park in the Scottish Cup.
