Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has sustained a heel injury and will sit out the Reds' trip to Fenerbahce in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Gravenberch, who was dropped to the bench at the weekend against Arsenal, with 19-year-old Trey Nyoni favored instead, will remain on Merseyside and undergo treatment for the issue, the severity of which is not yet clear.

Dominik Szoboszlai is back fit again, however. He, Alexis Mac Allister and Nyoni will all be a part of Andoni Iraola's squad for the game in Istanbul, which is Liverpool's fourth in the Champions League this term. It has won each of the previous three.

Iraola will offer the latest updates on Liverpool injuries in a press conference scheduled to take place at around 3.15pm UK time today (Tuesday).

Szoboszlai is likely to start in the European clash having returned to fitness, and the Hungarian told reporters that he had to be patient during a recent setback.

“It’s very hard, you know," he explained. "I’m the type of player, as you might know, that the last three seasons I want to play every 90 minutes.

"But sometimes, your body says ‘rest a little bit’ and my body told me to ‘Stay calm, you’ve had enough games now’. I missed games against Man City and LASK and then I felt again very good after a couple of days off but it seemed I wasn’t ready.

"Sometimes it is my heart and I listen to my heart and not my body. These decisions I made with what happened in the last weeks so today was the plan to come in — I was actually ready from the start but I’ve played 30 minutes and let’s see from now on."

Szoboszlai is capable of playing in all three midfield positions, and insisted that he is happy to fill in wherever he is required.

"It depends where (Iraola) puts me," the 25-year-old added. "As a six, he might ask me different stuff, and as a 10, he might ask me different stuff as an eight.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

"I only know before the game what I’m going to play, we all know only before the game so from there is only one and half hours to discuss with him the stuff he wants to do in the game and how he wants you to play."

After victories over Atletico Madrid, LASK and Villarreal in the Champions League so far this season, Liverpool is third in the standings ahead of matchday four. Teams must finish inside the top eight spots to avoid the extra games in the play-off round.

As a result of the margin for error — and with matches against Club Brugge, FC Porto, Inter Milan and Lens still to come — it might make sense to give a couple of key men a rest.
