Vitória de Guimarães secured their first league victory in five games on Friday night, defeating CS Marítimo 4-0 at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques.

O Vitória de Guimarães goleou o Marítimo no jogo de abertura da nona jornada da I Liga, interrompendo uma série de cinco partidas sem vencer no campeonato, perante um adversário que somou o sétimo jogo consecutivo sem triunfos.

Jakupovic Breaks the Deadlock

The stalemate was finally broken in the 38th minute through a direct free kick from Jakupovic. The Austrian forward’s goal acted as a catalyst for the home side, shifting the momentum in favor of Tiago Margarido’s squad. Jakupovic, who stands 1.88 meters tall, earned a rating of 7 for his performance, which included his ability to hold the ball with his back to the goal and his aerial prowess.

The second half saw the visitors’ structure collapse almost immediately. Just three minutes after the restart, Paulo Henrique scored an own goal, extending the Vitória lead to 2-0. Marítimo’s attempt to respond was thwarted when a 65th-minute strike from Martín Tejón hit the crossbar, following a cross from Raphael Guzzo.

Marítimo’s Tactical Collapse

Oumar Camara added a third goal in the 60th minute, assisted by Gustavo Silva, who played a central role in connecting the midfield to the attack. As Marítimo’s defensive organization eroded, Vitória exploited the space on the flanks, maintaining control through rapid, vertical transitions. Rodrigo Andrade stood out as the most defiant figure for the visitors, attempting to provide combat and aggression in midfield despite being cautioned with a yellow card.

Final Minutes Seal the Result

Jakupovic secured his second of the night in the 76th minute, capitalizing on passive marking by the Marítimo central defenders. The final goal came in the 90th minute, when Yeimar Mosquera headed in a corner kick delivered by Alanzinho, finalizing the 4-0 scoreline.

The victory moves Vitória de Guimarães to 11th place in the league table with eight points.

Coaching Perspectives on the Result

Tiago Margarido praised his side’s personality in a high-pressure environment. “We had many shots, and this time, the difference was that we scored,” the Vitória coach stated, as quoted by Record. He emphasized that the performance reflected the team’s ongoing work against low-block opponents, which had been a focus in training over the previous three weeks. Regarding goalkeeper Lucas Furtado, Margarido noted, “The Lucas [Furtado], since he arrived at Vitória, is in a process of growth and evolution.”

The match atmosphere was supported by fans who had the option to purchase tickets online or at the Vitória Store locations in Espaço Guimarães and GuimarãesShopping, with prices ranging from 4 to 10 euros. Season ticket holders were required to present their quota for October 2026 to gain entry to the stadium.
