Commanders GM Adam Peters shows his respect for WR Terry McLaurin

Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters was asked about rookie receiver Antonio Williams, and his response was surprising.

During his weekly appearance on the “Sports Junkies" on 106.7 The Fan, one co-host inquired, “What do you see in Antonio Williams and his future? Is this a guy who can be a number one receiver in the league?” Those were the two questions offered to Peters.

Yet, Peters chose to respond this way, “I think first and foremost, I want to just give a shout-out to Terry (McLaurin). He’s having surgery today.” One of the Junkies, Jason Bishop, surprised, responded, “Wow.” Peters continued, “All those who do so, please say a prayer for him. He’s a big part of what we’re doing, what we’ve done, so he’s more gutted than anybody. So, I just want to send him some love here today.”

The NFL is such a business; no doubt Peters has been talking with his staff, with head coach Dan Quinn, about McLaurin’s injury, the roster depth at wide receiver, the practice squad depth, and yes, McLaurin's salary for next season. Yet here he was, when asked about Williams, taking time to show he has a heart for one of his injured players. A player who, no less, has been a leader, a captain on and off the field.

McLaurin suffered a horrible non-contact injury in the first quarter of the Commanders’ most recent game, a 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. On the play, McLaurin suddenly stumbled, and upon falling to the ground, immediately grabbed at his knee. The diagnosis was a torn patellar tendon; surgery is required, and McLaurin is out for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Yes, Peters then answered their question about Williams. But wasn’t it refreshing to hear Peters, though he is the head of all football operations for the Commanders, does indeed have a heart and wanted to express care for McLaurin?
