Wow: Liverpool are now “working” on transfer deal that is “highly likely” to happen

Ronald Araujo’s permanent move to Liverpool is “highly likely” to happen if he continues his current performances, former scout Mick Brown has claimed.

The Uruguayan has become one of the Reds’ popular players in no time, despite only arriving on loan from Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

Araujo was fantastic in Sunday’s 2-0 win at home to Brighton, and on current evidence, Liverpool will surely be considering signing him for £47.1m next summer.

That’s certainly the opinion of Brown, who told Football Insider that it is “highly likely” to happen, as long as his performance level doesn’t suddenly drop:

“Liverpool will already be working on that deal to sign Araujo on a permanent deal, it’s already happening. When you get a player like that on loan and he hits the ground running, the immediate inclination is to make sure you have everything lined up behind the scenes.

“So that’s what Liverpool will be doing now, because the manager has liked what he has seen from him so far, especially after that display against Brighton.

“They’ll obviously keep a close eye on how he gets on for the rest of the season, and a decision will be made before the summer, but they want to have it lined up already.

“Araujo has been terrific, he’s become a very important player for Liverpool, and if he continues to impress as he has been, then he is highly likely to stay permanently.”

Ronald Araujo: Liverpool’s newest cult hero

When Liverpool signed Araujo on loan, some eyebrows were raised, with some feeling that there was a reason why Barca didn’t want to keep hold of their captain.

But the 27-year-old has been an incredible addition for the Reds, not only impressing on the pitch, but coming across superbly off it, and speaking honestly about his mental health struggles.

Liverpool simply must sign Araujo permanently if he carries on this current vein of form, with the Uruguayan a versatile option who can shine at centre-back and right-back, as well as possessing natural leadership.

He already feels like a vital player for Andoni Iraola, and he can become a true Reds hero over time.
