One hundred and six athletes traveled across western Germany to compete in the ninth Iserlohn Classics, hosted by the Iserlohner TS badminton department. The tournament featured 72 pairs competing across nine categories from 9:30 a.m. until late into the evening. ikz-online.de reported that competition was split between A, B, and C classifications for men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

Morning sessions prioritized mixed events, while afternoon schedules shifted focus to standard doubles and mixed-category finals. Out of 146 total matches played throughout the day, exactly one-third required a deciding third set to determine a winner. Mixed doubles generated the highest rate of extended drama, with over 41 percent of its 58 matches pushing to the limit.

Clubs from the Ruhr region dominate the visiting roster

Regional competitors made up the bulk of the field, drawing heavily from the Ruhr area, Münsterland, and East Westphalia. ikz-online.de reported that the BC Herscheid contingent was the largest among visiting clubs, bringing ten entries to match their participation numbers from previous years. Other participating athletes arrived from Dortmund, Soest, Recklinghausen, Essen, Duisburg, Oberhausen, and Witzhelden in the Bergischen Land.

Travel distances varied widely across the tournament roster. Competitors arrived from Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Enger, Lotte, the Cologne-Bonn region, and Troisdorf. The longest journey of the weekend belonged to a women’s pair representing TuS Horhausen from the Westerwald district in Rhineland-Palatinate, who ultimately won the B-class women’s doubles title.

Three runner-up finishes highlight the home club performance

Fifteen athletes represented the host Iserlohner TS club across the tournament brackets. ikz-online.de reported that Christian Pelka and Mosi Simpson secured a runner-up finish in the men’s doubles B division after advancing through a tight three-set semifinal before falling to Angelo Soltner and Hasan Anwaar Waqar in the final.

Carolin Grünheid and Kira Klose also claimed silver in the women’s doubles B bracket, dropping a narrow three-set decision to the Westerwald pair with scores of 20:22, 21:11, and 18:21. Grünheid paired with Falk Tischer later in the day to reach the mixed doubles B final, taking second place following a dramatic 25:23 scoreline in the third set of their semifinal match.

Played matches test player endurance across three disciplines

The 146 matches played during the event tested player endurance across three distinct disciplines. ikz-online.de reported that the schedule included 58 mixed doubles matches, 52 men’s doubles matches, and 36 women’s doubles matches. Three of the eight championship finals required three sets to decide the victor, specifically the mixed A, mixed C, and women’s doubles B title matches.
