Paris Saint-Germain stay perfect as Manchester United complete dramatic Champions League comeback

Paris Saint-Germain maintained their 100% record in the UEFA Champions League with a 6-0 win at Villarreal, while Manchester United overturned a two-goal deficit to beat Roma 3-2 in a dramatic Matchday 4 programme.

Nine matches produced 26 goals on Tuesday, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich also recording important victories. African players featured prominently across the night as the league-phase standings began to take shape.

PSG settled the contest in Spain during a devastating opening 17 minutes. Joao Neves, Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz all scored before Villarreal had time to recover. Ruiz added his second after half-time, and teenager David Boly completed the rout on his Champions League debut.

The defending champions are the only side still with a perfect record and sit at the top of the standings with maximum points.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United’s response was equally striking. Roma led 2-0 inside 18 minutes after goals from Matias Soule and Donyell Malen’s penalty.

Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit with a retaken spot-kick shortly before the hour mark. Bryan Mbeumo then hit both posts, before Matheus Cunha scored twice in the space of three late minutes to seal a 3-2 victory.

The result ended United’s nine-match winless run and relieved pressure on the home side. Cameroon international Mbeumo started and came close to scoring, while Amad Diallo also played. Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba featured before leaving the match early with an injury.

Barcelona produced a controlled display at Camp Nou, defeating Aston Villa 3-0. Lamine Yamal put the hosts ahead early, and Raphinha added two goals after the interval. Villa suffered their first defeat of the Champions League campaign.

Bayern Munich strengthened their position in the upper half of the table with a 2-0 win at Atletico Madrid. Teenager Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer scored in the second half, while Harry Kane was unable to find the net. Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman was part of the Atletico squad.

Osimhen helps Galatasaray make home breakthrough

The strongest African focus was in Istanbul, where Victor Osimhen played the full 90 minutes as Galatasaray beat Stuttgart 2-0.

The Nigerian striker created a persistent threat and registered several attempts, but Russian midfielder Aleksei Batrakov scored both goals within the opening 15 minutes. The victory ended Galatasaray’s long wait for a home win against German opposition and improved their prospects of reaching the knockout stages.

Inter Milan defeated Feyenoord 3-0, while Sporting Lisbon edged Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 through Issa Doumbia. LASK scored four without reply against Slovak side Slovan Bratislava, with Nigerian forward Moses Usor involved for the Austrian winners.

Bodø/Glimt and Lille drew 0-0 in Norway. More fixtures are scheduled for Wednesday as the Champions League league phase continues.
