Gustavo Varela is attracting attention from a growing list of clubs, with Inter Milan now reported to be considering a move for the 21-year-old AC Monza striker.
Journalist Ekrem Konur reports that Inter have joined Arsenal and Napoli in tracking the forward’s progress. Varela’s performances this season have strengthened his reputation as one of the more sought-after young attacking players ahead of the winter transfer window.
The Portugal Under-21 international has scored four goals in seven appearances for his country. His club record is even more impressive, with nine goals and one assist in eight appearances across all competitions.
Those figures have increased interest in Varela, whose attacking potential has made him a target for several ambitious European clubs. However, any move will depend on the terms of his contract with Monza and whether the Italian club is prepared to negotiate his departure.
Varela is tied to AC Monza until 2030, giving the club a strong contractual position. His long-term deal could make negotiations more complicated for any interested side, particularly with Inter Milan, Arsenal and Napoli all monitoring the situation.
Benfica may also hold an important advantage in the race for the striker. The Portuguese club is reported to have negotiated a buy-back clause worth between 9.5 and 10 million euros, which could allow it to bring Varela back.
On Transfermarkt, the forward, who is of Cape Verdean origin, has an estimated market value of 5 million euros. That figure is below the reported price of Benfica’s potential buy-back option.
The situation could therefore develop into a contest involving several clubs. Inter Milan, Arsenal and Napoli are following Varela’s progress, while Benfica could have the option to intervene if it decides to activate its clause.
The next stage of the forward’s development will come with AC Monza’s match against Napoli on the ninth matchday of the Italian championship.
