The heralded POWERLINE (c, 2, Flightline–Park Avenue, by Quality Road) continued his habit of missing the break Saturday in the Keeneland opener but still rallied from the back impressively to become a 'TDN Rising Star' to kick off the Breeders' Cup.

Making his third start after running behind the likes of GI Hopeful Stakes winner and fellow 'Rising Star' The Good Life (Life Is Good) along with GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile runner up and another 'Rising Star' in American History (Constitution), Powerline faced another salty field and jumped as a 6-1 shot from the middle of the gate several seconds behind the rest of the group.

Rushing up and rank under Flavien Prat, Powerline had to stay wide around the entire track and placed himself midpack into the far turn. Four wide and losing all the ground through the half in :45.81, he surged up outside of $925,000 Keeneland September grad Highwayman (Curlin) and drove right past that rival into the final sixteenth, pulling away late for the win. Lifetime Record: 3-1-1-0.

O-West Point Thoroughbreds, Oxley, John C., Summer Wind Equine LLC, and Bee Zee, LLC; B-Summer Wind Equine LLC & Sarah S. Farish; T-Steve Asmussen. Sales History: $1,800,000 ylg' 25 FTSAUG.

An impressive run by (1) Powerline opening up Breeders' Cup Saturday at Keeneland! (2) Highwaymen a close second and (4) Knicks Diamonds is third. https://t.co/yR0bGB8WAQ
