Ohio State quarterback commit Chris Vargas was clutch Friday night against Catholic Memorial.
Vargas helped St. John's Prep (MA) secure one of its biggest wins of the season on Oct. 30, throwing for 203 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-35 victory over Catholic Memorial.
The Ohio State commit completed 12 of 21 passes without an interception as the Eagles improved to 8-0 and clinched the Catholic Conference outright.
Vargas connected with Will Codreanu for a 30-yard touchdown in the first quarter before finding Riley Selvais for a 36-yard scoring strike in the fourth.
St. John's Prep ultimately needed a late push to survive. Senior running back Maxwell Parent powered the decisive 87-yard drive, carrying the ball six consecutive times before the Eagles scored the go-ahead touchdown with 27 seconds remaining.
Parent finished with 220 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries as St. John's Prep secured the No. 1 seed in the Division 1 playoffs.
Vargas is one of the headliners of Ohio State's 2028 recruiting class, committing to the Buckeyes on Aug. 8. The five-star prospect chose Ohio State over a lengthy list of major programs, including Alabama, Georgia and Oregon. His commitment gives the Buckeyes a nationally regarded quarterback prospect as they continue building their next recruiting class.
Friday's performance offered another opportunity for Vargas to showcase his talent on a major stage, helping keep St. John's Prep unbeaten heading into the postseason.
