Mohammed Sofo is concentrating on establishing himself with New York Red Bulls rather than looking ahead to a possible Ghana call-up, despite a consistent run of performances in Major League Soccer.
The 21-year-old Ghanaian forward made his 24th regular-season appearance of the campaign on Saturday, helping New York Red Bulls beat Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami 2-0 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.
Sofo’s latest display has increased anticipation over whether he could soon be included in the Ghana squad. However, the forward remains focused on producing for his club and is not yet allowing speculation about the Black Stars to distract him from his current objectives.
The winger joined New York Red Bulls II on loan in June 2023 after developing at the JMG Academy in Mali and playing for Guidars FC. He signed a contract with the club’s first team in September 2024.
His team-mate Ronald Donkor has already made the step up to international football, earning his first Ghana cap during the international break in September. Speaking to Footy-Africa, Sofo expressed his happiness at seeing Donkor reach that milestone.
Sofo has scored one goal and provided one assist for New York Red Bulls this season. His contract with the club runs until the end of 2026.
The player’s current valuation is one million euros.
