Conor Gallagher has revealed which former Tottenham Hotspur player he looks up to the most, as well as his favourite moment in a Spurs shirt so far.
Many generations of Spurs fans have been accustomed to watching some of the best technically gifted midfielders at the club, going back to Glenn Hoddle, Chris Waddle, Paul Gasgoine, to players such as Rafael van der Vaart, Luka Modric and Christian Eriksen in the modern era.
It is fair to say that Gallagher is certainly not that mould of number 10, with the 26-year-old being extremely workmanlike rather than relying on his technical brilliance.
It has thus taken Spurs fans some time to warm to the former Chelsea man, but he is slowly but surely winning them over with his attitude and work-rate. His latest responses will endear him to the Tottenham faithful even more.
The midfielder has now done an interactive section with the fans, answering questions posed by Tottenham supporters directly on the club’s official website.
Conor, a 14-year-old Spurs fan, asked Gallagher who his favourite Tottenham player of all time is, and the 26-year-old’s response was not surprising.
He named Harry Kane, who he has shared a dressing room with for England, admitting that he is in awe of the striker’s achievements at Spurs and now at Bayern.
Gallagher said: “Harry Kane. It has to be. Obviously, I was lucky enough to play with him with England, too, and what he’s achieved is incredible. And what he’s achieved at Tottenham as well as what he’s doing now is amazing.”
The former Atletico Madrid star was also asked to pick his favourite moment out of the nine months he has spent at the North London club so far.
Gallagher remarked that the win over Everton on the final day of last season stands out, admitting that there was a huge relief among the squad after the final whistle.
He said: “It would have to be the last day, the last game of last season when we stayed in the Premier League. Just when I knew we were going to win the game, and the fact that we were staying in the league was such a relief to all of us. It was a really good moment.”
