Flamingos goalkeeper Jane Ijirigho is confident Nigeria can overcome Brazil in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, saying unity, discipline and strict adherence to the coaches’ plans will be crucial.
Ijirigho said Nigeria’s run in the tournament has been driven by a shared commitment throughout the squad, with each player carrying an important responsibility. The goalkeeper added that she was pleased to have played her own role from between the posts.
“It comes down to teamwork because everybody has a role. I will carry out mine as the goalkeeper, just as the others will do theirs. I am very happy that I have been able to contribute by doing what I do best,” she said.
Looking ahead to the meeting with Brazil, Ijirigho believes the Flamingos can reach the final if they continue with the same intensity shown so far, follow the direction of the technical staff and retain their winning approach.
“I believe we can get beyond Brazil if we continue playing with the momentum we have had and listen to our coaches. We also have to maintain the same mentality of going out to win,” she added.
Ijirigho previously featured for CATS FC in Lagos and was part of the Lagos State side that claimed football gold at the most recent National Youth Games without allowing a single goal. She is now with Nasarawa Amazons in the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership.
The winners of Nigeria’s semi-final against Brazil will secure a place in the tournament’s final.
