Victor Osimhen praised Galatasaray’s team performance after scoring in their 4-2 away win against Lille in the UEFA Champions League.
The Turkish Super Lig champions defeated the Nigeria international’s former club at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Tuesday night, with Osimhen getting on the scoresheet for the first time in the Champions League this season.
The forward was named Man of the Match after helping Okan Buruk’s side secure three points in an entertaining encounter. Yunus Akgun also scored for Galatasaray, while Aleksei Batrakov and Nabil Bentaleb were involved in Lille’s goals, with Bentaleb scoring an own goal.
Osimhen said he was pleased with the result despite Lille making the contest difficult for the visitors.
“I love this stadium. The fans are incredible. We had a tough match. I’m very happy for our team; we won. I also wish Lille good luck in their next matches,” Osimhen was quoted as saying by Galatasaray’s official website.
He also highlighted Lille’s ability to take the lead before Galatasaray recovered to complete the victory.
“Lille players are very tough. They even took the lead. We managed to win the match together as a team. I’m happy we got the three points.”
The victory gave Osimhen the opportunity to score against his former club while contributing to Galatasaray’s strong start in the competition. His goal completed an evening in which the visitors responded to Lille’s challenge and finished with a two-goal advantage.
Osimhen’s performance was recognised with the Man of the Match award, while his goal added to the contribution from Galatasaray’s attack as they overcame Lille on French soil.
Galatasaray will next return to home territory in the UEFA Champions League. They are scheduled to host Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart at the RAMS Park on Tuesday, November 3.
